Dear 2nd Grade families of students trying out for a solo,
This year, the 2nd graders at East elementary will be performing a Holiday musical called “Elflandia!”
If your child (boy or girl) is interested in trying out/auditioning for one of the two singing solos (not speaking parts), I am trying something new.
Because so many 2nd grade students have expressed interest in trying out for a solo, I will be using something called Google Voice to enable all students that would like to audition, to do so.
Of course ideally, I would listen to each student “live” in class or after/before school, but that’s just not possible. Google Voice should be a wonderful solution. Please see the directions below.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Google Voice -- Audition Instructions
Ready to call and record your audition? Here’s how you do it:
- Get all your stuff ready to go;
- Phone (any phone will work. It doesn’t have to be a smart phone).
- Your voice (make sure your voice is warmed up, you have practiced your song, and you are ready to sing!).
- Words/lyrics, or have the song verse memorized (song must be memorized if you are picked to perform at the concert).
- Accompaniment music -- Optional, but helpful -- if you are able to listen to or sing along with the soundtrack without voices through my weebly website* (see website address below), that will be helpful. I don’t need to hear the soundtrack so you can be listening with headphones or ear buds while you leave/record just your voice for the voicemail audition). (Of course you can sing “a cappella” if you wish. The first two notes of the first solo are middle C to A. The first two notes of the second solo are also middle C to A.
- Find a quiet area.
- Call (616) 303-1492. (This is not my personal phone number. It is a Google Voice number that accepts voicemail messages only.) It will ring a few times before going to voicemail. After prompted, and after the beep, CLEARLY say:
- Your first and last name,
- Who your 2nd grade classroom/homeroom teacher is, and
- Which solo you will be trying out for. (Number 1 or number 2)
- Sing your solo audition into your phone. (Remember to sing expressively with good clear words!)
- Say goodbye and hang up. That’s it, you’re done!
If you mess up, just call again and leave another voicemail. You may only try out for one solo. I will pick a soloist and an one alternate for each solo and each performance.
All Google Voice auditions must be in by Monday, November 14th.
Thank you!
